Region: Macedon Ranges
Grapes: Chardonnay
First Glance: Nutty, Pure, Energetic
The Wine:
Foot stomped before gently pressing into stainless steel. Cold settled for 60 hours then racked and transferred to new and old French oak for primary and secondary fermentation. Matured for 14 months in oak and a further 3 months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
Hay, popcorn, cracked wheat, frisky stone fruit and cashew characters. Flavoursome and energetic. The cracked wheat and almost cider-like aspects are distinctive, and the apple-like characters add a cleansing aspect to the finish.
The Review:
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front - 94pts
"Intensity of fruit flavour here is excellent. Low alcohol but this Macedon chardonnay packs a punch in the glass. It’s a chardonnay with grilled peach and fragrant herb notes, and a gently saline edge, and a layer of grapefruit, all of which makes for mouthwatering drinking. It’s serious but it makes you want too dive in for more. Cedarwood oak plays a role too, but hand-in-glove. Every post is a winner here."
